Musikgymnasium Schloss Belvedere and the Deutsche Bank Foundation have a long common bond which was reaching a new level with an extraordinary joint opera project at the Deutsches Nationaltheater in Weimar: the high-school's orchestra and children's choir participated in the spring of 2008 in a co-production with the Academy Opera Today of Britten's Shakespeare opera "A Midsummer Night's Dream".
In an initiative by the Deutsche Bank Foundation, Tobias Kratzer und Elena Tzavara, two fellows of the Academy Opera Today, were staging Britten's work at the Deutsches Nationaltheater in Weimar. Two further fellows, Janina Moelle and Lucas Reuter, were responsible for dramaturgy. The orchestra and children's choir of the Musikgymnasium played and sang under the musical direction of Juri Lebedev, while students of the "Franz Listz" University for Music embodied several roles of the "Midsummer Night's Dream".

This collaboration is an outstanding example of the prolific synergies between the Foundation's various projects. "This project let us consolidate the Foundation's commitment in a nearly perfect way," emphasizes Michael Münch, member of the Deutsche Bank Foundation's board. "Our fellows can take advantage of the Foundation's longstanding ties to the Musikgymnasium and benefit from the practical collaboration with the various institutions."

The Musikgymnasium Schloss Belvedere in Weimar supports talented young musicians on their way to the top. This state-approved school emphasises music and prepares particularly talented students for university entrance. The professors of the "Franz Listz" University of Music in Weimar ensure a high standard of instrumental training. Being a UNESCO school project gives the Musikgymnasium international flair: its 130 students come from all over the world. They get early opportunities to perform in public at numerous activities.
The Musikgymnasium arose from Weimar's orchestra school, which was founded in 1872 at the behest of Franz Liszt. The school and its affiliated boarding school have been housed in the Baroque Belvedere Palace, at the gates of Weimar, since 1996. Deutsche Bank assumed the full costs of restoring the palace, as well as for a full new building, in 1995 on the occasion of its 125th birthday.
To enable the further education of outstanding graduates of the Musikgymnasium, the Deutsche Bank Foundation began funding two scholarships annually since 1997. The winners receive a monthly stipend for the first four semesters of their music degree programme. With these scholarships, the Deutsche Bank Foundation adds to Deutsche Bank's commitment to the Musikgymnasium Schloss Belvedere, once again underscoring its efforts to support talented young musicians.
